Mit „What do birds tweet about?“ entsteht im öffentlichen Raum eine interaktive Klanginstallation im Spannungsfeld von Kunst, Technologie und Ornithologie. „Listening Stations“ werden gebaut, um in Echtzeit Vogelstimmen zu erfassen, sie zu analysieren und die akustischen Signale in menschliche Sprache zu übersetzen. In unregelmäßigen Abständen gibt sie kurze Texte wieder – Fragmente einer laufenden Konversation, die sich zwischen Ästen, Antennen und Luftschichten entfaltet.

Die Sprache der Vögel zu verstehen, ermöglicht einen Dialog zwischen Arten. So eröffnet sich die Möglichkeit einer stillen Annäherung. „ What do birds tweet about?“ ist eine Einladung zur Koexistenz in einem geteilten akustischen Raum – inmitten urbaner Landschaften. Die Installation reagiert auf das akustische Geschehen ihrer Umgebung. Sie hört mit. Ein Ruf, der gerade aus den Bäumen kam. Ein Gesang auf der Suche nach einem Partner. Das hungrige Rufen eines Jungvogels.

Dieses Projekt wird vom Goethe-Institut Vietnam in Zusammenarbeit mit lokalen und deutschen Partnern – Think Playgrounds aus Hanoi und Baltic Raw Org aus Hamburg – initiiert, die hier zum ersten Mal gemeinsam tätig werden. Getragen von einem gemeinsamen Engagement für die Einbindung von Nachbarschaft und den Erhalt natürlicher Ökosysteme haben die Partner über viele Monate hinweg eng kooperiert, um zwei originale Kunstinstallationen im öffentlichen Raum in Hanoi und Ho-Chi-Minh-Stadt zu entwickeln.

Im Rahmen der Feierlichkeiten zum 50-jährigen Bestehen der diplomatischen Beziehungen zwischen Vietnam und Deutschland verfolgt die Zusammenarbeit das Ziel, einen nachhaltigen Beitrag für die lokale Gemeinschaft zu leisten.

What do birds tweet about? is an interactive sound installation in public spaces that explores the intersection of art, technology and ornithology. The Birdtranslator captures bird calls in real time, analyses them and translates the acoustic signals into human language. At irregular intervals, it reproduces short texts – fragments of an ongoing conversation that unfolds between branches, antennas and layers of air.

Understanding the language of birds enables dialogue between species. This opens up the possibility of a silent rapprochement. ‘What do birds tweet about?’ is an invitation to coexist in a shared acoustic space – in the midst of urban landscapes.The installation responds to the acoustic events in its surroundings. It listens in. A call that just came from the trees. A song in search of a mate. The hungry cry of a young bird.

This project is being initiated by the Goethe-Institut Vietnam in collaboration with local and German partners – Think Playgrounds from Hanoi and Baltic Raw Org from Hamburg – who are working together for the first time. Driven by a shared commitment to community involvement and the preservation of natural ecosystems, the partners have worked closely together over many months to develop two original art installations in public spaces in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

As part of the celebrations marking 50 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Germany, the collaboration aims to make a lasting contribution to the local community by bringing together German and Vietnamese artists and architects for a site-specific co-creation.
